ACT Score Calculator

The ACT Composite score is the average of your section scores, rounded to the nearest whole number on a 1–36 scale. Each section — English, Math, and Reading — is scored from 1 to 36. You add the three section scores, divide by 3, and apply ACT's rounding rule: fractions below 0.5 round down, 0.5 or above round up.

If you have seen an older guide that calculates the Composite from four sections (English, Math, Reading, and Science), that reflects the pre-September 2025 format. As of the September 2025 test, the ACT Composite is calculated from English, Math, and Reading only. Science is now an optional section — if you take it, you get a separate Science score and an overall STEM score, but neither counts toward the Composite. This is a real change to the test structure, not just a scoring adjustment, so any formula you see that includes Science in the average is out of date.

This calculator works with scaled section scores (the 1–36 numbers you receive on your score report), not raw question counts. ACT scaled scores are equated per test form, so there is no single public raw-to-scaled conversion table — the conversion depends on which specific test form you took.
